General office hours run Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The office closes for lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m. every day. Marriage license hours are more limited. You can apply for a marriage license only between 8:30 a.m. and noon, or between 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Do not arrive at 3:40 p.m. expecting to get a license. The office will not process new applications after 3:30 p.m. This is different from many other Indiana counties where the cutoff is less defined.

How to Apply for a Franklin County Marriage License
Franklin County asks applicants to start their application online before coming in. Go to in.gov/courts/services/marriage-license to fill out the pre-application form. This does not replace the in-person step. Both parties must still appear together at the clerk's office in Brookville to complete the process and pay. You cannot finish the application online or send a representative in your place.
Franklin County only accepts certain forms of payment. Cash, money orders, cashier's checks, and credit cards are all accepted. Personal checks are not. If you pay by credit card, there is a service fee of 3.5% or a minimum of $0.50, whichever is greater. Come prepared with the right payment. The clerk's office is clear about this and will not accept personal checks.
