Applying for a Fayette County Marriage License

To apply for a Fayette County marriage license, both parties must appear together at the clerk's office in Connersville. Indiana does not allow one person to complete the process alone. Both applicants must bring valid government-issued photo ID showing their date of birth and current address. A driver's license or state ID works well. If you have been married before, bring documentation of any prior marriage dissolution.

Indiana lets you start the application online before your visit. The state marriage license portal at in.gov/courts/services/marriage-license walks you through the pre-application steps. Completing this ahead of time can make your visit to the Fayette County Clerk faster. The pre-application does not replace the in-person step. Both parties still need to show up and sign in person.

The fee for Fayette County residents is $29. Out-of-state applicants pay more. The license is valid for 60 days from the date it is issued under Indiana Code 31-11. If the ceremony does not happen within 60 days, both applicants must start the process over. Indiana Code 31-11, available at iga.in.gov, sets the full legal requirements for marriage in Indiana, including Fayette County.

Note: The office closes for lunch daily from noon to 1:00 p.m., and Thursday hours end at 12:30 p.m., so plan your visit accordingly.
