Applying for a Crawford County Marriage License

To get married in Indiana, you need a valid marriage license. Crawford County follows the same rules as all other Indiana counties under Indiana Code 31-11. Both applicants must appear in person at the clerk's office in English. You cannot apply by mail or send someone else to apply for you. At least one person must be a resident of Crawford County, or the ceremony must be planned for the county if both parties are from out of state.

Bring a government-issued photo ID that shows your date of birth. Both applicants must be 18 or older. If either party was previously married, bring information about how that marriage ended, including the date and method of dissolution. The standard resident fee follows the Indiana statewide rate of $29, which includes the license and the first certified copy. Out-of-state applicants pay $69. Payment is made at the clerk's office when you apply.

Indiana lets you start your application online before going to the clerk's office. Visit in.gov/courts/services/marriage-license to fill out the pre-application. This step saves time at the office but does not replace the in-person visit. The license is valid for 60 days from the date it is issued. If you do not use it within that window, you will need to apply again.

Note: Birth and death records in Crawford County are held by the Health Department, not the clerk. Contact the right office based on the record type you need.
